Puppies Enjoy Raw Meat

puppies_eating_meat Ahhhh, check out these pups enjoying a nice raw meat meal. Yes, even pups can eat raw meat. Satchel, that’s Moe, was weaned on raw meat.

Questions about the raw meat diet: Call us in Portland, Oregon – 503.245.2853

Commercial Pet Foods

Just a friendly reminder from Moe’s Meats that dry kibble contains additives, chemicals and preservatives in every single piece. This is stuff our pets should not be eating at every meal. It doesn’t matter if it’s the “expensive” kind of kibble or the “prescription” kibble – it’s dry cereal that is NOTHING close to real food. And dogs would like to eat real food.

Add in the toxins from “routine” vaccines, water and the environment and it’s no wonder that dogs are dying of cancer, suffering from allergies and people are spending lots of money on vet bills and medication.

Commercial pet food has only been around for a few decades – think about that for a minute. What did dogs eat before Purina came about? Meat and scraps.

Have Questions About the Raw Meat Diet for Your Dog and Cat?

images Are you a little unsure about the raw meat diet and how it will change your life? Well, here are some tips we like to share with new raw meat / BARF feeders:

  • The key to transitioning your dog to the raw diet is to start slow. Their first raw meal should be 3/4 what they normally eat and 1/4 raw meat. You can slowly work your way from there. If you do notice they have a belly ache, pick up some digestive enzymes at your grocery store and give them a pill with each meal until the bottle is finished. By that time they should be fine with eating raw.
  • It’s hard to estimate how much raw meat your pet will actually eat. It all depends on their age, breed, activity level and metabolism. What we can tell you is that Satchel, our 6 year old, mellow, 85 pound Ridgeback gets 3 meals out of 2 pounds of meat (plus veggies). That’s the same amount that our 45 pound, high energy, mystery hound Maji eats.
  • The great thing about the raw meat diet (well, one of the great things about the raw meat diet) is that you will be able to tell very quickly if you are feeding your pet too much or too little of the raw meat. They gain and loose very fast, unlike the slow build up of weight with kibble.
  • What about freezing and thawing? Well, if yo have a bigger dog we recommend thawing the tube of meat until you can cut it then keep the rest in the fridge until it’s gone. If you have smaller dogs or cats you can thaw until it’s cutable, then slice up meal sized servings and re-freeze.
  • And the mess? If you have a special space you can set aside for meat preparing, that’s easiest. A laundry, garage, etc works great. That’s not a required part of the feeding the raw meat diet, it just helps. What also helps is if you can set aside a knife and fork and cutting board that is used just for the raw meat. This is particularly helpful if you don’t have a dishwasher to clean everything up.
  • Any more questions? Just ask us at Moe’s Meats.

General Inquiry

Hi Potential Buyer,

We are a residence operating as an LLC in NE Portland off of 15th street. How Moe’s Meats works is we can chat on the phone or via email to answer all your questions, then when you place an order you select a time to pick up the meat and we deliver it to your car – so no shopping time required.

Moe’s Meats sells local, antibiotic and hormone free meats, that are USDA inspected (though not for human consumption b/c the ground meat does contain bone). We sell Columbia River Valley meats because we found them to be of the highest quality that is also the most affordable.

Our ground meat is sold in tubes called chubs that equal 2 pounds of meat. If you own dogs, all dogs should also be getting ground veggies with every meal. We sell meat that comes with veggies (80% meat & 20% veggies) and we sell 1.5 pound veggie packs that allow you to control the amount of veggies you add to their meal.

In case you didn’t notice, the Shop Meat section lists all our products and the prices: http://www.moesmeats.com/shop_meat

If you have any questions Potential Buyer, just let me know.

Satchel Does Not Endorse Political Candidates…

…but here is a quote from a meat loving person:

If any vegans came over for dinner, I could whip them up a salad, then explain my philosophy on being a carnivore: If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come He made them out of meat? I love meat. I eat pork chops, thick bacon burgers, and the seared fatty edges of a medium-well-done steak. But I especially love moose and caribou. I always remind people from outside our state that there’s plenty of room for all Alaska’s animals—right next to the mashed potatoes.

Hello meat eaters (and your people/owners) – those delicious chicken necks I’m holding…the ones you’re salivating over. Guess who packed them? That’s right – me.

Received the shipment, broke things down into dog-friendly portions, packed them in your to-go bag, and ran them out to your owner’s car while you rode in the back with your head out the window, breathing the meat-filled breeze.

And with that said, I humbly ask for your vote for Moe’s employee of the year, 2009.

The deal with organ meats

Hi everyone,

MeatBoy here. Moe asked that I write a quick note about the benefits of organ meats, and how you can make it work for your budget. We’ve been taking a lot of calls about organ meats lately, so here goes.

Organ meats are extremely lean, and extremely rich in nutrients, iron, healthy oils, and protein, to name a few. Moe’s Meats carries an organ meat blend that includes heart, liver and kidney, and when ordering, you can request certain blends if you choose. (We’ll do our best to accommodate.)

Because organ meats are so rich in vitamins and nutrients, we suggest, rather than feeding a whole bowl of organ meats, you approach them as a way to enhance and boost your pup’s meal. (It’s a little different if you’re feeding a cat; then, we suggest going straight organ meat for the furry little carnivore in your life.)

Here at Moe’s we offer a number of options to make sure you get organ meat in your pet’s diet: a beef blend that includes heart; two chicken blends with buffalo heart and liver; and a turkey blend with beef heart.

You can also decide to buy straight organ meat by the pound, which gives you an extra level of control when choosing how to augment and enhance your dog’s meal. You can easily divvy out a pound of organ meat over the course of four or five meals, can mix it in for a special treat now and then, or can make sure they have some in their bowl after an especially rigorous workout such as a day romping at the beach or traversing the wilderness.

If you have questions about organ meat, or any other meat for that matter, just call Moe’s at 503-245-2853. We’ll be happy to talk with you.

Shop Meat

To welcome the beginning of fall and a new meat buying season Moe’s Meats has re-organized our product page. No longer is Meats-n-Treats called Meats-n-Treats. Per customer request we’ve changed the page name to a more recognizable wording – Shop Meat. We’ve also grouped the meats by species, making customizable searches quicker and more efficient.

Let us know what you think of our changes!

Freezer Bash

Every year Moe’s Meats takes their inventory low and does a deep clean on all their freezers (we have 3). This is Satchel (aka Moe) doing his part.

TRIPE! TRIPE! TRIPE!

Moe’s Meats loves to sell Tripe!

Tripe is made from the first three chambers of a cow’s stomach and dogs love it! Wiki has this to say about tripe: “…this content is desirable to dogs and many other carnivores and is often used in pet food. Though it is called “green,” because it has a high chlorophyll content a green substrate, in reality it is often grayish brown as a result of other undigested compounds.” All those undigested compunds make it highly nutritious for pet

If you’ve never fed your pet raw tripe or you’re interested in starting on the raw meat diet, check out Moe’s Meats Meats-n-Treats page to see all our offerings: http://www.moesmeats.com/meats_n_treats

Mmmmm Tripe!

Back From Summer Camp

Satchel asked that I send word to his buyers that he is back from Summer Camp and ready to start selling meat again. As you can see, he is resting from his adventures, which means I will probably be taking your order while he sleeps.

Looking forward to hearing from you…..Meat Woman.

Moe is on Vacation

dear meat eaters and buyers,

i am on summer vacation until august 12, at which time i’ll like, return from camp. camp is where i, you know, hone my lion hunting skills to protect ne portland from lions. if you, like, live in ne portland, then you know that you haven’t seen lions around.

my roommate will not be taking meat orders during this time. if you need meat, call or email and Meat Woman will get back to you on august 12.

Meat with Veggies

Hello Raw Meat Pet Food Keepers.

Moe asked me to write some words about veggies. Since it’s summer, the bounty is plentyful and Moe would all pet owners to remember that their loved one love veggies with their meat.

All dogs and some cats do require veggies with their raw meat diet. They digest vegetables best if they are grounded in a food processor. The easiest way to feed your pet veggies is to buy meat that already contains ground veggies in it. This is also a good way to convince the boarding kennel or dog sitter that feeding the raw meat diet isn’t that much work.

Moe’s Meats sells 4 types of meat that contain yummy greens (and oranges and yellows):

Beef w/ Heart and Mixed Veggies
Beef w/ Heart and Mixed Veggies 80% ground beef and heart. 20% fresh frozen veggies.
$6.50 / 2 lbs

Chicken w/ Mixed Veggies
80% ground chicken backs, necks, wings, heart and liver. 20% fresh frozen veggies.
$4.00 / 2 lbs

Duck w/ Mixed Veggies
80% ground Muscovy duck and 20% fresh frozen veggies.
$5.00 / 2 lbs

Turkey w/ Mixed Veggies
80% ground Turkey necks and 20% of fresh frozen veggies.
$4.50 / 2 lbs

Moe’s Meats also sells 1.5 containers of pre-ground veggie to supplement your natural, raw meat diet.

Check out our full selection of meats and veggies on the Meats-n-Treats page: http://www.moesmeats.com/meats_n_treats

If you have any questions or would like to place an order, give us a call at 503.245.2853 or send moe an email: moe@moesmeats.com

Introducing my new networking group

people and dog owners,

this is moe, owner and operator of Moe’s Meats, LLC – Portland’s finest distributer of raw meat for dogs and cats. listen:

last Friday, I, moe, tried going to what is commonly called a “networking” group. kind of like a dog park for people, you know?

anyway, get a load of this: they, the people, would not let me join? at first, you know, I thought it was because I wasn’t, you know, wearing pants. but NO!

they, the people, wouldn’t let me join because I, moe, was a dog. could you believe that?

after I peed on a nearby plastic plant (not to mention the “surprise” I left near the stairwell), I, moe, decided to start my OWN networking group.

and that group’s name is MEAT: Moe’s Entrepreneurial Action Team.

now – being an equal opportunity business owner and dog, I, moe, would like to invite you, a person, to join MEAT. all you have to do is, like, tell me what would be a good business referral for you, while at the same time, like, you know, help me get business too.

it’s a good model.

once a week (starting this week), I, moe, will post what will be a good referral. you, person, can leave a comment telling me how I can help you.

(m)Okay –

Attention Portland Timebank Members

hi. moe here.

if you’re a member of the Portland Timebank, and really, who isn’t, your able to pay 10% of your meat order with timedollars (limit $10). that’s a great deal because, like, you’re not using real money, just, like, time.

if you don’t know what the Portland Timebank is, then you’re missing out. however, you can, like, join at any time. it works so that you offer services that you enjoy doing – pulling weeds, dog walking, dog feeding, cleaning poop and you “purchase” services from other people that you need – book keeping, back massage, reiki healing – stuff like that. it’s equal hour for hour, no matter if you’re an attorney or own a doggie day care.

so, like, check out the new economy, man. and buy some raw meat with it.

Turkey Necks for Dogs

Yes! Yes! Yes! We love turkey necks! Moe’s Meats will be carrying turkey necks all summer, as long as he is able to keep them in stock (they are difficult to come by in the Portland area). Turkey necks are a great way to naturally clean a dog’s teeth while providing them with great nutrition.

The turkey necks also provide great varity to your loved ones diet and most dogs really enjoy noshing on them.

Give Moe’s Meats turkey necks a try and see what your dog thinks.

Rec Bone Season

Satchel gnawing on a rec bone

Satchel gnawing on a rec bone

What better time of the year to be outside for hours and enjoy some raw meat right off the bone? I always tell customers that rec bones are like TV for dogs. Need to clean the house or run to the store without walking your puppy? Throw them a rec bone and watch them be content for hours.

The chewing action releases relaxing hormones and the outside air tires them out. After working down a bone, they pup will usually come inside, gulp water, then pass out for the next few hours.

And it’s totally safe to leave half chewed bones outside until the next time puppy is ready to eat on them. Satchel calls this “letting the bones season” and our grass is pretty much a bone yard. We’ll toss the bones every now and then, but really they don’t bother us and they never make our dogs sick. Occasionally, the flies get annoying and in the very hottest part of the day it smells like raw meat, but both those issues only last for a short window of time.

So check out Moe’s selection of raw, meaty bones. They come in small, medium and large. Medium usually being bigger than a man’s palm and large can mean as big as your arm. Moe tries to keep the smaller medium size always in stock in the summer. For his smaller customers, the lamb bone tray is a great option as well.

what’s neckst

people,

this is moe. just got done R&D’ing three turkey necks. the results: huge. and, delicious.

as you know, I love R&D’ing my product, so, like, if you want to buy some turkey necks, you should, like, place an order soon.

Cow Pie – New Item

Moe’s Meats now has Cow Pie on the menu. Believe it or not, we have had requests for this lovely tube of meat. If you have never heard of it before, it’s a deliticable combination of tripe, beef, and beef heart and kidney. Perfect for the dog or cat that loves both tripe and beef. And really, who doesn’t?

Wheat Allergies in Dogs

Allergies are super common among dogs, especially allergies to wheat. Their systems react the same way to repetitive foods as humans, they develop an intolerance to that food. If you were to eat wheat everyday and at every meal, chances are high that you would become sensitive to wheat – same with dogs.

A diet of raw meat can help that situation. Start giving your dog 3/4 their regular diet and 1/4 raw meat. AT the very least, stick with half kibble and half meat – that might help the situation. If it doesn’t then transition fully to the raw meat diet.

Give Moe’s Meats a call and we can help with that transition.
