Vote for MeatBoy, Moe’s Meats Employee of the Year

Monday, September 21st, 2009

meatboy

Hello meat eaters (and your people/owners) – those delicious chicken necks I’m holding…the ones you’re salivating over. Guess who packed them? That’s right – me.

Received the shipment, broke things down into dog-friendly portions, packed them in your to-go bag, and ran them out to your owner’s car while you rode in the back with your head out the window, breathing the meat-filled breeze.

And with that said, I humbly ask for your vote for Moe’s employee of the year, 2009.

Food to Avoid When Feeding Raw Meat

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

People often ask what foods should their pet stay away from. Below is a solid list pulled from Moe’s FAQ section title About Meat.

Chocolate

Chocolate contains  theobromine, a cardiac stimulant that can cause  dogs to become hyperactive, thirsty, and suffer an irregular or increased heart rate.

Raisins and grapes

Though it’s fun to watch your dog catch grapes or raisins in their mouth, use popcorn instead. Both raisins and grapes can cause liver failure in dogs.

Onions

Raw, cooked, dried – it’s all bad. Onions contain thiosulphate, which causes red blood cells to explode.

Cobs of corn

Choking hazard that is worth mentioning.

Macadamia nuts

Macadamia nuts can cause tremor, weakness, and paralysis.

Fruit seeds

Pear seeds, apple seeds, peach, plum, apricot pits all contain trace amounts of cyanide. Rarely harmful, but important enough to be aware of.

Caffeine

Caffeine can cause hyperactivity, tremors, or seizures.  That means no soda, coffee or non-herbal tea.

Alcohol, Tobacco and street drugs

That’s just not cool.

Yeast dough/bread dough

Dough continues to rise in your pet’s stomach and can make them uncomfortable.

a note that this morning, eating my raw beef with pureed veggies and brown rice out on the deck, I, like, you know, saw my shadow, which means AT LEAST six-more weeks of raw meat for all the dogs and cats in Portland until, you know, I eat it for myself.

Homemade Natural Pet Food

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Interested in starting the year off right for your dog or cat? Begin by trying out raw, natural pet food to increase their immunity and health.

It doesn’t come as a surprise to many that feeding your pet a dry, manufactured cereal that resembles mulch is about as nutritious for them as feeding yourself french fries every night for dinner. Yes, both species can survive on tat diet, but it’s not the most sustaining and holistic approach to health.

For more information on how to get started, contact Moe’s Meats at 503.245.2853. We offer free group and private instruction classes on making your own homemade, natural, raw and wholesome pet food.

Feed Raw For Your Pet’s Health

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Domesticated dogs and cats have the same digestive tract that their wild ancestors have. With the exception of natural dangers from natural predators and catastrophes, dogs and cats in the wild rarely have degenerative diseases and live for a long-time based on their species.

The diet of your dog and cat is just as important to longevity and health as your diet is. To reduce the risk of cancers and other old-age diseases, a diet rich in

According to an article written by Shirley Lipschutz-Robinson, “Dr. Francis Pottenger of the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm tried an experiment on several hundred cats. He divided them into two groups and fed one group their natural diet of raw meat and the other group a man-made diet of cooked pet food. He carried on this experiment through three generations. The cats that were fed their normal uncooked diet thrived. The cats that were fed a cooked diet developed the same diseases, and required the same medical treatment, as we humans. (excerpt from an article at the NewVeg site)”

Because pet food have their nutrients supplemented and made into unabsorbable products is what leads to toxin build up and then disease. It’s the exact same process that happens in humans when fed a diet of fast food. Yes, our bodies are amazingly adaptable to handle nutrient depleted food, but eventually it catches up to us. And the same goes for our pets.

To ensure holistic health and immunity for your dog and cat, feed them a raw natural diet. If you would like more information about where to begin, give Moe’s Meats a call at 503.245.2853

Budgeting for your pets

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Hi everyone, this is Dave, Satchel’s meat boy. I wanted to write a quick note about what’s going on here at Moe’s Meats, and how we can help you budget for your pet’s healthy diet.

We’re dog owners. We started Moe’s Meats because, as we found ourselves budgeting in wake of the current economic situation, we didn’t want to compromise the health of Satchel and Maji, both of whom have been eating raw since they decided to adopt us as their humans. The idea blossomed into selling Columbia River Natural Pet Food, which is USDA inspected, fresh frozen, and raw. We are strong advocates and believers in the raw diet, and with Moe’s Meats, we’re able to provide it at a lower cost to other pet owners who, like us, wish to provide their pets with the best diet possible while also watching their budgets.

We like to have fun around here. Yes, Satchel’s a poet, Maji’s crazy, Courtney’s a recovering vegetarian, and I’m….I’m not sure what I do to deserve any of it. They let me hang around and write on the blog once in a while. We’re selling raw meat out of our home in Portland, Oregon, not because there’s anything poetic or crazy or vegetarian about it – OK, maybe in some ironic way it is a bit poetic, but I’ll leave that up to the mind of the reader – but because we can do so at lower prices than you’ll find at retailers.

Everyone seems to be on a budget these days. If you’re on a budget and you still want to feed your dogs and cats raw, give us a call and we’ll see if we can help you along.

Thanks for reading – Dave
