Human Point of View: Thawing the Meat

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

As you can see, it’s really helpful to have a slop sink to thaw meat. Here in Satchel’s Kosher Kitchen you can see two two-pound chubs of meat and one container of ground veggies ready to be eaten.

Always wearing the purple gloves of happiness, I cut the chub in half, then empty each serving into a bowl. Anything that is left over gets stored in a spare bowl, covered in a plastic bag and put in the human fridge.

Human Point of View:What About Parasites?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

We’ve had a bunch of people ask if their dog or cat can get bugs from eating raw meat. An animal can get sick from eating just about anything, but it’s very rare for the pet to get sick because of raw meat in their diet.

As long as you buy your raw meat from a reputable source and you the pet owner handle the raw meat as you would meat you would set on your dinner table by keeping it frozen until you need it, letting it thaw in a cool and shady part of the house, put it in the fridge when it is still cool, don’t re-freeze after it is completely thawed, you shouldn’t run into any issues.

What experiences have you had with parasites in raw meat?
